For those distributions that are not available on line, UNetbootin allows you to install them with an image on a disk or a version that is stored in the Kernel or Initrids disk. Do not worry about starting up the program, because UNetbootin sets up a dual boot after installing the distribution you selected.
I recently downloaded Ubuntu 14.04 to my Mac so that I could use it with the VirtualBox 5.0 virtualization software. After downloading Ubuntu 14.04 to the Mac, I checked its md5 sum and compared it to the md5 provided on the Ubuntu web site.
I followed the 'I would like to create a USB stick' and 'I will be using a Mac' instructions. After successfully booting Ubuntu in this way I repeated the instructions with a Debian Live CD distro. Fundamentally this has worked but I am ironing out some Mac specific issues with Debian.

I created a live usb out of a windows 10.iso with unetbootin but when I reboot the computer with the usb stick and boot from the usb stick from the boot menu then a blue menu comes up with the title UNetbooting and only once choice 'Default' and a timer that will choose the default option in 10 seconds if I don't choose that option myself but whenever it's chosen then the timer restarts from 10 seconds again.
